Literature Study- Small reading groups with weekly story first semester. Whole group novel study second semester.
Singapore Math program – Builds a strong mathematical foundation through in depth coverage taught to mastery. With mathematical understanding as its focus, students logical thinking and critical problem solving skills are cultivated.
Daily Geography(second, third, and forth nine weeks)-Increases student knowledge and understanding of physical and political aspects of the world as they relate to geography.
The overall theme in second grade is the importance of living in social groups in a global setting. It is the time to learn how our own place in space interacts with the rest of the world.
Life Science: 2nd grade studies interdependence of organisms and their surroundings.
Physical Science: 2nd grade examines Earth’s changing surface, the structure/properties/ interactions of matter, and pushes /pulls.

Bat project: Students are each assigned a bat to research and write a report about. A portion of their completed report (two paragraphs) is presented to the school during morning chapel.
Inventors Fair: Students each choose an inventor/invention to represent in an Inventors Fair. Students research and write a report about their chosen inventor/invention, and create a presentation board/display.
Poetry Project: Students celebrate our poetry genre study through a fun recital of “pigericks” (a play on limericks). Students present their selected poem in costume during all school chapel.
Dinosaur Project: Students research and write a report (6 paragraph) for their selected dinosaur. A portion of their report is presented during our all school chapel.
