Coast Episcopal School is excited to announce the 2019 winners of Children in the Arts Contest and Workshop. The Children in the Arts Contest is open to fourth through sixth graders enrolled in public, private, and parochial schools on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The schools that participated selected first, second and third place winners from their students and that artwork was submitted to the contest. This year over 70 students from 10 schools participated. Sarah Qarqish and Morgan Welch of the HannaBerry Workshop judged the artwork and selected overall first, second and third place winners who each receive da $100 cash prize. This outstanding work of children’s art was displayed at Toast to the Coast on October 18th and in the gallery of the Gail Keenan Art Center. All participating students were invited to attend an art workshop and a reception in their honor on November 2nd.
Judges, Sarah Qarqish and Morgan Welch of the HannaBerry Workshop
The HannaBerry Workshop originated in Jackson, MS and is a collaborative studio between artists/designers, Sarah Hanna Qarqish & Morgan Berry Welch. Their studio’s focus is on designing and producing collections of furniture and artwork. Together, HannaBerry blends fresh new ideas and technologies with traditional practices to make heirloom quality objects. The pair incorporates boat building techniques and a variety of art studio practices into their furniture designs. Both, Sarah & Morgan, graduated from Mississippi State University in 2013 with a BFA in Fine Art. Sarah also completed a degree in Graphic Design, and Morgan a degree in Architectural Studies. After graduating, the duo created their studio in March of 2014. Since then, the couple have married and relocated to the MS Gulf Coast to expand their studio/workshop
