New Addition: “Buddy Bench” on CES Playground

Coast Episcopal School Girl Scouts Install “Buddy Bench” on Playground

The Coast Episcopal School Girl Scouts have installed a new Buddy Bench on the school’s multi-age playground. The bench received a blessing by School Chaplain, the Reverend Clelie McCandless in chapel on Monday, Oct. 27, 2019.

How does a Buddy Bench work? If a student is sitting on the Buddy Bench, then that student is looking for a play-mate. During recess, students are encouraged to glance over at the school’s Buddy Bench to invite new friends to join in on a game or to begin a new adventure.

Coast Episcopal School Girl Scout Amelia Edrington said she is excited about the new bench. “It will help new kids make friends when they just move to our school,” she said.

If a student sees someone sitting on the bench, they are encouraged to ask that classmate to play and make a new friend. CES students are lucky to have recess with multiple grades. This bench creates opportunities for students to make new friends in various age ranges.

“The buddy bench lets kids in lower grades make new friends in older grades and kids in older grades can be friends with kids in higher grades,” said Coast Episcopal School Girl Scout Charlotte Nobile.
