Ten middle school students competed against 12 other teams this past Saturday, January 25 in the FIRST LEGO League Qualifier at Saint Patrick’s High School. Team members included 7th grader Reese Miller and the following 6th grade students: Farres Baroudi, Huck Brodersen, Sam Grant, Waits Murphy, Luke Phillips, Nicolas Toner, Mitchell Thompson, Reeves Traxler, and Vince Vorrath. Participants competed in four categories: Robot Design, Innovation Project, Core Values Presentation, and Robot Game. The Robo Raiders received first place in the Innovation Project category where they were tasked to solve a problem in their community. Their innovation project was to re-purpose an area on campus to create a greenhouse which would benefit their school lunches and supplement our science classes.
With our first place finish in the Innovation Project category we are one of 9 teams in Mississippi to be nominated for the First Lego League Global Innovation Award presented by Disney. One team will be chosen to represent Mississippi at the national level.
