School Waves – An Art Installation at the Gail Keenan Art Center

THE GAIL KEENAN ART CENTER

is pleased to present

SCHOOL WAVES

an outdoor sculpture in glass and steel by

ERICA LARKIN GAUDET AND MITCHElL GAUDET

in partnership with the Public Art Enterprise program of the

WALTER ANDERSON MUSEUM OF ART and with works designed by the students of

COAST EPISCOPAL SCHOOL

SCHOOL WAVES will extend the existing organic waveforms in the curve wall that is the main entry to the GKAC. It will also serve as an artistic activation that signals the exciting arts programming that is inside the building.

The project is part of a larger Gail Keenan Art Center improvement project supported in part by funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission through the Building Fund for the Arts. These improvements include sound panels, interior and exterior painting, wood repair, door improvements, and the repair and repainting of our signature exterior curved wall.

We invite you to be a part of this exciting moment by SPONSORING A FISH!

Proceeds will support these and ongoing improvements at the Gail Keenan Art Center, which provides school and community art programming for all ages as well as professional and student art exhibits.

SCHOOL WAVES fish were created by Coast Episcopal School 3rd through 6th grade students, led by educators from the Walter Anderson Museum of Art. Students created the fish in clay. These clay fish were then cast in sand, which was used to create the glass figures. There will be five colors of glass fish on the final art installation, swimming along the steel bands of waves. These bands serve both an aesthetic and functional purpose, effectively “gating” off areas of the campus – but in an aesthetically pleasing and unique way that pays homage to our school, our coastal location and our emphasis on the arts.
